“As a child, we didn’t even have electricity…”

On Friday, April 25, 2025, a lecture by media educator, audiovisual producer, lecturer, and musician Uli Gilles took place in the parish hall of the Apostelkirche (Apostle Church) in Bonn-Tannenbusch.

Under the title “Digitalization as an Opportunity for Participation – How to Get Started?” Mr. Gilles demonstrated in a practical way how older people, in particular, can better understand digital media and use it in their everyday lives to remain socially active and strengthen their independence.

The number of women who grew up without technology – even without electricity – was astonishingly high. This is a huge leap from today’s smartphone use, which many take for granted, but some also reject.

After the lecture, an open discussion took place where participants could ask questions and share their experiences. The event was free and open to everyone.
